The York Regional Police earlier announced that CalledID should not be trusted because it is now being used to impersonate judges and Crown attorneys. When later interviewed on CTV, I offered these 3 “pro” tips:

1. Always screen your calls. If you don't recognize or aren't expecting a call, let it go to voice mail.

2. If you hear dead air, hang up. If you're sure it's an unsolicited call, block the number.

3. If it's an urgent call hang up and call them back at a number you can verify from a trustworthy source.

Remember to never share private information with a caller, even if they already claim to possess part of it and want to verify the rest.

Consider contacting the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre because fewer than 5% of us ever report cyberfraud and the lack of public awareness really helps the bad guys.
